Overview
International regulations require that you must do Ships Security Officer Course (Training) if you are a seafarer who has been, or has the prospect of being, appointed as the Ship Security Officer on a merchant vessel trading internationally. Some private maritime security companies providing security for ships transiting high risk areas, also require their team leaders to successfully complete the Ship Security Officer (SSO) course.

LEARNING CONTENT
Course Code STCW A-VI/5
On completion students will have sufficient knowledge on the following area’s:
- Module One: Introduction
- Module Two: Maintain and Supervise the Implementation of a Ship Security Plan
- Module Three: Assess Security Risk, Threat and Vulnerability
- Module Four: Undertake Regular Inspections of the Ship to Ensure that Appropriate Security Measures are Implemented and Maintained
- Module Five: Ensure that Security Equipment and Systems, if any, are Properly Operated, Tested and Calibrated
- Module Six: Encourage Security Awareness and Vigilance
- Module Seven: BMP4 (Best Management Practices for Protection Against Somalia Based Piracy)
Prerequisites
- Proficiency in English Language written and Verbal skills
- Medically Fit
Target Audience
Seafarer working in the role of a SSO.
Certification
A Project Maritime Training STCW 2010 Manilla Compliant Certificate will be issued on delegate been found competent.

Items to bring
- Delegates must present photographic ID at the start of the course.
- Accepted forms are government issued photographic identification, eg passport or identity document
Health
All delegates will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
