Short Range Communications

The Short-Range Certificate (SRC) course is designed to impart understanding of the short range (VHF) section of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) as well as its sub-systems. It places particular emphasis on utilisation of the VHF radiotelephone and DSC services during distress, urgency, safety and routine communications.

The course is a structured mixture of theory and practical application and covers these main areas:

  • Detailed practical knowledge and ability to use the basic VHF ship station equipment as well as sub-systems.

Miscellaneous skills and operational procedures for general communication.

Course Structure

The course is delivered by a highly experienced team of professional communicators, providing both breadth and depth of operational and technical knowledge gained in industry. Course instructors are also experienced GMDSS examiners who can provide targeted guidance and support to students.
